Emblem |
The Griffin is the West Vancouver Track & Field Club's recognized
emblem.
According to legend, the Griffin or "Lion Eagle" could not be matched
for its Courage, Strength and Vigilance. The Griffins lived in the mountains
between the land of the Hyperboreans and the land of the one-eyed Arimaspians. |
Part eagle, part lion, the Griffins guarded their native treasures - above
all the gold to be found in the mountains. The Arimaspians tried many times
to steal it, and because they always made their attacks on horseback, they
created a lasting hostility between horses and Griffins. Confrontation often
led to fierce battles, but the aggressor could never match the power of
the Griffin.
